Tanjung Benoa Beach

BeachBeachRelaxingFamily

A shallow beach facing a calm inner bay. Beautiful during the morning calm and sunrise, suitable for families and relaxation.

The beach stretching along the eastern side of the Tanjung Benoa peninsula, extending north of Nusa Dua, is renowned as Bali's premier watersports hub. However, beyond its bustling facade, it also possesses the charm of a calm and quiet beach. Protected by offshore coral reefs acting as natural breakwaters, the bay waters are exceptionally calm, with shallows extending far out. This makes it a safe place for families with young children to enjoy swimming. Particularly in the early morning when the wind dies down, the mirror-like water surface combined with the sunrise over the horizon creates a stunning scene. Once a port town bustling with traders from China and Bugis, and a fishing village, the area still retains a unique atmosphere where resort glamour and local life coexist.

History: A Multicultural Port Town

Historically, Tanjung Benoa served as an important port connecting Bali to the outside world. It was a place where different ethnicities and cultures intersected, remnants of which can still be seen in the Chinese temples (Klenteng), Hindu temples, and Muslim mosques scattered across the peninsula. The close proximity of these religious facilities signifies the area's long-standing tolerance and acceptance of diverse cultures. Beyond relaxing on the beach, exploring these historical buildings offers an interesting diversion.

Enjoyment and Precautions

The main appeal of this beach is relaxing by its calm waters. Renting a daybed at one of the beachfront hotels or restaurants and spending the day reading or simply gazing at the tranquil sea is recommended. However, be aware that during the day, traffic from watersports boats and jet skis can become heavy. When swimming, stay within designated areas and pay close attention to boat movements. An early morning walk is especially recommended, offering glimpses of local life and fishermen preparing for their day.

Highlights (Check These Out!)

The Chinese temple 'Caow Eng Bio Temple' located mid-peninsula, reportedly established in the 18th century, is a beautiful structure worth seeing. Dedicated to sea deities, it attracts worshipers among fishermen and sailors. Its ornate dragon carvings and vibrant colors are noteworthy. Near the tip of the peninsula, the 'Turtle Conservation and Education Center' engages in sea turtle protection and breeding activities, offering a chance to learn about turtle ecology (often included as part of tours by watersports operators).
