Sekumpul Waterfall

NatureWaterfallTrekkingScenic

Known as the "King of North Bali," this magnificent waterfall features multiple cascades creating a misty canyon.

Hailed as the "King of North Bali," Sekumpul Waterfall stands apart from Bali's many other waterfalls due to its immense scale. Its name means "collection," aptly describing the at least seven or more waterfalls fed by multiple sources that converge in a single, deep green jungle valley. The curtain of water, plunging from a height of about 80 meters, creates a spectacular landscape. While the view from the lookout point is stunning, the true power of this waterfall is only felt when you descend to the valley floor and look up. The thundering roar and the cloud of spray that fills the air give you a visceral sense of nature's overwhelming energy, making you feel as if you've stepped into another world. Access is not easy, but the reward far outweighs the effort, making this one of Bali's ultimate hidden gems.

Nature: A Waterfall from Two Sources

What makes Sekumpul unique is that it has two different water sources. One is a mountain spring, which flows with clear water all year round. The other is a river, which swells and often turns brown during the rainy season. As a result, visitors can see delicate, thread-like white falls during the dry season, and a powerful, roaring side-by-side cascade in the rainy season. These two different flows give the canyon's landscape a complex beauty.

Trekking and Safety

To reach the plunge pool, you must descend steep stairs, slippery mountain paths, and cross a river. The round trip is a trek of about 1.5 to 2 hours, requiring a good level of fitness and proper equipment. You must wear trekking shoes or sport sandals with good grip. In recent years, to ensure tourist safety and create local employment, it has become mandatory to be accompanied by an official guide from the local village. Follow the guide's instructions and proceed at a pace that is comfortable for you. Be especially careful when crossing the river, as the current can be fast.

Culture: The Waterfall and Village Coexistence

The villages around Sekumpul are in a fertile agricultural area, with plantations of coffee, cloves, and cacao. Along the trek, you can catch glimpses of this farming life. The development of the waterfall as a tourist destination has brought a new source of income to these villages. Guiding and running small 'warungs' (food stalls) are now important jobs for local residents. The entrance and guide fees we pay help to preserve this beautiful natural environment and support the village's livelihood.

Highlights (What to Check Out!)

Trekking packages often include a visit to the nearby Fiji Waterfall, which is also a beautiful three-pronged cascade worth seeing. You can swim in the plunge pool, but the water is extremely cold, so those with heart conditions should be cautious. You will likely get completely soaked from the spray, so bringing a waterproof bag, a change of clothes, and a towel is highly recommended. If you are not physically able to make the trek to the bottom, you can still enjoy the magnificent view from the lookout point near the entrance.
