Banyumala Twin Waterfalls

NatureWaterfallHikingCooling Off

Twin waterfalls cascading down a green rock face. Known for its cool highland air and tranquility.

Hidden deep in the hills of Wanagiri, north of the Bedugul highlands, Banyumala Waterfall is an exceptionally graceful and photogenic spot known as the 'Twin Waterfalls.' Two streams cascade gently down a rock face covered in green vines and ferns, like veils of silk, into a natural pool glittering emerald green below. The surroundings are enveloped in silence, broken only by the sound of water and birdsong. Its ethereal beauty has led some to describe it as a place where fairies might live. Reaching the waterfall requires descending a rather steep mountain path for about 15 minutes, but the reward is a tranquil space that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. It's an ideal spot for enjoying a leisurely swim, taking photos, and simply relaxing.

Nature: Pure Water Nurtured by the Highlands

Banyumala means 'holy water' in Indonesian. The Bedugul highlands, where this waterfall is located, receive significant rainfall, and the lush forests act as a 'water tower,' storing vast amounts of water. The clear spring water, filtered through these forests, flows down as this waterfall. This is why the plunge pool is astonishingly transparent and the water is refreshingly cold. This area plays a crucial role in the water systems that support agriculture across Bali, and the beauty of the waterfall is a symbol of this rich natural blessing.

Access and Trekking

While the path to the waterfall has been gradually improved in recent years, it still includes steep descents and slippery dirt sections. Sturdy footwear is essential, especially during or after the rainy season when the path becomes muddy and difficult. Bamboo handrails are installed, but don't rely on them too heavily. The descent might feel easy, but the climb back up is surprisingly strenuous. Allow plenty of time, bring sufficient water, and walk at your own pace.

Highlights (What to Check Out!)

The natural pool at the base of the falls is relatively shallow and calm, making it perfect for swimming and wading. However, the water is very cold, so ease yourself in slowly. The bamboo deck in front of the waterfall and the large rocks in the water are prime spots for taking photos. The early morning hours are particularly beautiful, as sunlight filters through the trees and makes the water sparkle. Try visiting during off-peak times to experience the luxury of having this magical space almost to yourself.
