Aling-Aling Waterfall Area
A canyon waterfall complex known for natural water slides. An active playground.
Located in the Sambangan village canyon in North Bali, the Aling-Aling waterfall area is not just for viewing; it's an adrenaline-pumping activity spot where you can enjoy cliff jumping into plunge pools and sliding down natural water slides. While swimming is prohibited at the main 35-meter Aling-Aling waterfall itself (as it's considered sacred), just downstream lie a series of waterfalls perfect for adventure: cliff jumps from heights of 5, 10, and 15 meters, and a 12-meter natural water slide. This thrilling river-trekking experience amidst the lush canyon has gained immense popularity among adventure-seeking travelers. For safety, participation in activities requires wearing a life jacket and being accompanied by a local professional guide.
Nature: Sacred Falls and Playful Cascades
The unique characteristic of this area is the coexistence of multiple waterfalls with different natures within one canyon. The largest and most beautiful, Aling-Aling, splits into two streams as it falls, hence its name meaning 'separation,' and is revered as a sacred site of prayer. Downstream, however, waterfalls like Kroya, Kembar, and Pucuk become the stage for exhilarating activities. This seems to symbolize the Balinese duality of reverence for nature's power and utilizing its blessings for life and enjoyment.
Activities and Safety
To participate in the activities, you must sign up for a package tour at the entrance. There are typically three trekking routesโ'Short,' 'Medium,' and 'Long'โcatering to different fitness levels, each offering a varying number of jumps and slides. The guides are experts on safe jumping spots and proper techniques, and following their instructions is paramount. If you're afraid of heights, there's no pressure to jump; watching others is exciting enough.
Highlights (What to Check Out!)
If you're brave enough, definitely try the 15-meter cliff jump! The feeling of launching into the air and plunging into the cool water is unforgettable. The natural water slide is also surprisingly fast and thrilling. Even if you don't participate in the activities, you can pay the entrance fee to walk the trekking path and view the waterfalls. Be aware that the paths can be slippery even for viewing. Swimwear, water shoes (like sport sandals), a towel, and a change of clothes are essential if you plan to get wet.
